Bobby Murcer had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Mel Stottlemyre completed the game
without help from the bullpen at Sicks Stadium where the New York Yankees
beat the Seattle Pilots by the score of 3 to 2.
New York scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits. After an
out was recorded, Stottlemyre started the rally when he banged out a single.
Horace Clarke next to the plate and he laced a base-knock. Jerry Kenney then
drew a walk to load the bases. Murcer was up next and he slapped a single
which was good for two runs. Seattle had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short.
Stottlemyre(5-2) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Gary Bell(0-5)
suffered the loss. 'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Joe
Schultz said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What
can you say?'
