Tony Cloninger pitched 7 strong innings and third baseman Tony Perez left the
yard and had 2 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds topped the Philadelphia Phillies by
a score of 2 to 1 at Shibe Park.
Cincinnati jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring one runner
utilizing 2 base hits. Philadelphia had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.
The win was credited to Cloninger(4-1) who went 7 innings allowing no runs.
Cloninger got help from Wayne Granger who earned his 7th save. The loss was
charged to Rick Wise(3-4).
'We won because we did the little things right.' Dave Bristol said after the
game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
