13,602 fans were treated to a fine game at Municipal Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Kansas City Royals won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Dave Morehead(2-3) looked good in relief and was the winning pitcher. He
allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 and 1/3 innings. Cleveland made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Moe Drabowsky gained credit for his 2nd save. Sam McDowell(2-6) was tagged
with the loss. Alvin Dark was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss,
'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some,
but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that
just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
