Don Kessinger's single in the bottom of the 11th gave the Cubs a 4-3 win over the Padres.

Billy Williams touched them all at Wrigley Field where the Chicago Cubs beat
the San Diego Padres in 11 innings 4 to 3.

Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Chicago came out
the victor in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Nate Oliver
smacked a single. Phil Regan stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a
single. Regan took second on the throw. Jim Hickman then was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Don Kessinger was up next and he lined a
single resulting in an exciting win for Chicago and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Overall Chicago out-hit San Diego 13 to
9.

The victory went to Regan(3-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Jack
Baldschun(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings and surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk.
