The sizzling Baltimore Orioles came roaring back in the top of the ninth to
spoil the anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,,
was 5 to 3.
Baltimore erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Dave Johnson initiated
the scoring spurt when he doubled. Andy Etchebarren came next and he drew a
walk. One out later, Paul Blair stepped up to the plate and he lost the ball
over the fence for three runs (his 10th of the season). Baltimore and
Minnesota each finished the night with 8 hits.
Marcelino Lopez(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and
allowing no runs. Eddie Watt earned the save, his 1st. Dick Woodson(1-2)
took the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 5 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Boog Powell said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'
